Well almost, give or take a week. I’m currently down 19.7kgs (43.34 lbs). Last week I had my first gain which while disappointing, was somewhat expected as I’d had a big loss after being sick with gastro the week before. So one week of .4kg gain I can deal with… I also just had a week on holidays and came back to a .5kg loss so that’s never happened before!
I really need to up my exercise though, I think that’s what’s really holding me back… oh and this…. this stuff is the devil.
I only discovered it last week but I’ve now put a ban on buying any more as I can demolish half a big bag in a day without even thinking. Not good! So I’m going to look for a second hand elliptical trainer to chuck out in the garage. I don’t need anything flash as it’s going to be out in the open air garage, but at least if I force myself to do 20 mins or so 3 times a week I can say I’m exercising. I’m just finding it too hard working full time with a toddler and generally being unenthused about exercise to get out and do anything at 7pm at night after the baby goes to bed. I do aim to get my 10k steps in most days and for the large part, get there but I need to be doing a bit more.
oops… time is flying now I’m back at work! Plus weight loss has been slow and it’s not as exciting updating with a .3kg loss as it is for a 1.6kg lets face it!
I’m currently in week 15 of being sleeved and my weight is sitting on 87.2 kgs so a total loss to date of 16.4kgs. It’s really slowed down the last month or so, I’m hoping things will get moving again when AF shows again finally which is normally the case.
I’m beginning to lose interest in eating a lot of the time, it just seems like a lot of effort to cook a meal for 1/2 a cup worth and when I’m out on the road for work I struggle sometimes to find options as I don’t want to be
a) paying $12+ on something I’ll only eat a tiny amount of
b) throwing out food (and I can’t take my own lunch as it would have to survive 8+ hours in sometimes 50 degree heat in the car while I’m in appointments
c) only able to eat part of the meal (it’s always protein first)
So I have one sushi roll a lot of the time and then feel guilty because it’s mostly rice. Some days I have a vietnamese banh mi with cripsy pork and just eat the salad and pork and ditch the bun, yesterday I had the perfect lunch 4 x xio long bao dumplings. At a pinch in the middle of Hicksville I might get a MacDonalds ‘create your own burger’ without the bun but even then I’m throwing out half of it at least.
I’ll confess my sins here, the other day I just wanted KFC … (AF must be close) so I ordered 3 wicked wings and a small chips, I ate the wings and about 5 chips and it was like I had eaten a full Christmas lunch I was so stuffed and bloated. I won’t be doing that again in a hurry. But I think back to what I used to consume and while I felt like a complete glutton after that episode, in the grand scheme of things it’s really nothing in comparison.
In general I eat fairly well, but there is room for improvement for sure. I don’t eat much bread, pasta or rice. If I do have it, I have about 1 tablespoon. I stopped drinking my cider during the week (I was having one after work most evenings) but I’m generally getting in 1000 -1200 calories per day. I’ve attached an image of an average day for those who are curious.
I don’t know what bloody week it is half the time! I’m entering my 12th week sleeved.
- My weight is now 88.9kgs
- down .5kgs from last weeks weigh in
- down 14.7kgs since starting 23/11/15
I have my follow up with the surgeon tomorrow bright and early. I’m hoping he is pleased with my progress and I’d also like to discuss with him the results of my blood tests from last week which show that my BGL’s are still high after my fasting blood draw. One of my main reasons for getting the sleeve was to not become diabetic (I was pre diabetic), my cholesterol is also still high, but my thyroid levels have resolved. I was pretty bummed about all that – I was hoping I’d have a clean bill… but no.
In positive news – my ‘hunger pains’ have pretty much gone. I had stages for a while there where I felt absolutely ravenous! I figured out it was my stomach acid going crazy so Zantac seemed to sort that out. Other than that, it’s like there is a pox on this house at the moment – everyone is sick courtesy of my daughter entering day care. Colds/conjunctivitis/ sore throats/ chest infections (her) the list goes on. I will be happy when we are all feeling ok again, it’s been dragging on for over two weeks now!
Ok sorry about the slack updates! I’m currently entering into my 11th week of being sleeved and my weigh in was this morning.
Down to 89.4kgs so down 14.2kgs total loss now.
After AF about 10 days ago things really got moving thankfully. I’ve bought a few new clothes to get me through Feb/March before the winter months start hitting Melbourne. My measurements are going down a lot as well which kept me going during the couple of weeks where the scales weren’t really moving.
To date I haven’t done any exercise beyond trying to hit my 10k steps per day – which I’m not very good at. I do need to get onto some sort of exercise as the weight isn’t going to shift like this all the time.
My food is mostly good, and even when I’m being ‘bad’ I try to make the best choice out of bad options if that makes any sense.
I am feeling much more energetic these days in general and I was thinking it might be a good time now to go back and look at the list I compiled before having the surgery to see what has/hasn’t resolved.
- My legs ache ALL THE TIME – the only time they hurt now is pre-period
- I’m hobbling around if I do close to my 10,000 steps per day and can barely walk the next day – not an issue anymore
- My side hurts when I wake up from my body weight – this still happens
- Crippling fatigue in the afternoon – occasionally but not as bad as it was
- No energy in general – much improved
- Back issues/back spasms – hasn’t happened since surgery
- Severe Plantar Fascia – my feet are much better and getting better with each week
- Sore cracked heels from excess weight – gone
- I’m now pre-diabetic soon to be diabetic – having blood tests this week to check BGL’s and vitamins/iron
- 0% sex drive – much to my husband’s chagrin this is still the same
- No clothes fit or look good which makes me avoid going ‘out’ – those days are over – buying new clothes!
- Incredibly sore knee and perpetual swollen right ankle due to weight – vast improvement
- I am starting to get rashes under my tummy ‘apron’ (gross) – gone
- No period (day 61 today) and irregular periods – period still irregular at approx 60 days
- Snoring – husband reported this resolved within a week of surgery
- High resting heart rate – resting heart rate has dropped from 89-90bpms to 67bpm
- and I’m doing this to maybe, just maybe have another baby and to keep up with and stick around for the one I have – to be continued
I still have about 25-30kgs to lose so a long way to go but I’m well and truly on my way.
Weight loss is slooooow … down .6kgs last week for my 2 month weigh in and currently sitting on 91.4kgs. I was really hoping to be in the high 80’s by this stage but I just don’t think I’m going to be losing great amounts of weight fast.
So here are some comparison photos and sometimes I’m struggling to see it… I seem to have more rolls and not just as round as I was – I am still losing centimeters and I’ll update my measurements soon. I’m gripping on to those stats this week as it’s already Friday and I’ve lost nothing in this past week (in fact this morning I’d put on .2kgs) so not holding much hope for weigh in on Monday.
I am however, fitting in to clothes that had been relegated to the back of the cupboard for well over a year and I’ve been giving heaps of stuff to charity that’s just too big now so that is another positive to focus on.
Food wise, I could probably be doing better – I’m not over eating (I may have once or twice) but it’s sometimes what I’m eating that I think can see some improvement. Mind you I’m not scoffing cheeseburgers or anything but I should be sneaking more veggies into things, it’s a bit hard when you’re only allowed 1/2 a cup max at every meal. I still get hungry, a lot of it is head hunger and it fucks with me, but sometimes it is actual hunger, and I think it is stomach acid, I find if it is really bad, I take a zantac and it abates after an hour or so and I’m fine. I have a follow up with my surgeon in a few week so I’ll bring it up with him.
My foot is slowly getting better, I bought new shoes for my return to work which have really helped so I might see if they make runners in the same brand (Vionic if you’re interested). When I’m out on the road I’m easily getting in my 10k steps, but if I’m in the office I’m getting close by the end of the day, but no banana.
Down 1 kg to 92.4kgs
Total loss 11.2 kgs!
Back at work full time now so hopefully moving more will help things along.
My t-shirts are much baggier now and some of my pants are getting loose so its getting more exciting.
I’ve ditched the bra extender I had and will need to buy a bra in the next size down soon.
Comparison photos next week for my 2 month weigh in.
I love my Foodsaver. Probably even more since surgery. I use it for everything – if it fits in the bag I’ll foodsaver it. I have a tendancy to cook in bulk and store stuff in the freezer, it comes from my days as a misdiagnosed coeliac, you can’t just eat anything when you’re coeliac and getting takeaway when you couldn’t be arsed cooking was fraught, so I would make up lots of stuff to have on hand when I couldn’t be bothered.
My husband is away again this week so it’s just me and the baby so again I’m cooking for 3/4 of a person. I had a chicken defrosted in the fridge that I needed to use up so I did a roast dinner last night for me and Miss E, she had a thigh and I had about 1/4 of a breast so there was heaps of chook left. I sliced it and foodsavered it – great to pull out to chuck in a salad for a work lunch, use in Singapore noodles, a quick toasted sanger or risottto. Not much goes to waste around here.
-1kg this week, which considering Christmas is pretty good. Total loss 9.5kgs and currently sitting on 94.1kgs. Mentally, it seems to be taking forever to hit 10kgs but then I look at my stats and realise there is no way I’d be able to do this by myself.
My eating over Christmas was mostly the same except for Christmas day… on Christmas day I found it hardest with ‘nibbly’ food as you don’t eat much but it generally has a drink with it. I started the day with three mini corn fritters topped with smoked salmon and creme fraiche w/ dill. I had a prop glass of champagne with that which i probably had one sip out of. Then for the main event I had a small plate of turkey and pork and a tiny bit of salad. But after lunch I had some booze, in fact it sat so well I had quite a bit! 2 glasses of wine and then my sister and I shared a bottle of bubbly…but this was over about 5-6 hours…I also nibbled on cheese throughout the evening. I had no ‘dinner’ per se’ nor sny dessert all day and haven’t really craved sweet things which is a bit out character for me.
I was a bit shabby the next day, but I would have been pre sleeve with that much booze!
Back on the wagon since then though.
Had roast pork at Mother in laws on boxing day and felt revolting after it. I probably ate too much and its quite rich. But all good since then.
I’m still in my moonboot resting a metatarsal stress fracture in my foot and will be for another 2 weeks so not much exercise is happening yet. Then I’m back at work full time, I just really hope my foot heals between now and then.
Actually, scrap that ‘no weight loss this week’ comment. I actually lost .6kgs since last Monday. That’s what happens when you weigh yourself too much!
No weight loss this week…Boo! I’ve really upped my protein with Boomers protein powder which will stall things for a bit I think.
But time for some comparison photos to pick my mood up a little.
8.5kgs down since surgery on 23/11
I’ve also had a dodgy foot for the last year or so that I finally saw a podiatrist about last Friday, turns out it’s not my old friend plantar fascia but I have a metatarsal stress fracture and have to wear a freaking moonboot for 3 weeks until it heals so not much exercise is going to be done.
But here we go, I see a loss in my tummy and boobs. 23/11/15 Vs. 21/12/15 on the right.
